Women's Tennis Closes Out the Regular Season at Stetson

MILWAUKEE - The Marquette women's tennis team will close out the regular season at Stetson on April 13 before BIG EAST Tournament begins in Tampa, Fla. April 16-19. Doubles play against the Hatters will begin at 1:30 p.m. in Eland, Fla. at the Mandy Stoll Tennis Center.
The Golden Eagles (15-8, 5-2 BIG EAST) tallied three consecutive wins - the second longest streak of the season - before falling to No. 39 DePaul and No. 3 Notre Dame. Freshman Olga Fischer leads the team in singles wins, tallying a 16-7 dual record and a 12-4 record from the No. 2 singles position. The tandem of Rachael and Gillian Hush leads the team in doubles play with an 11-4 dual record, all from the No. 3 slot.
Stetson (13-5, 8-1 Atlantic Sun) clinched the No. 1 seed for the A-Sun Championships for the first time since 1987. The reigning conference Coach of the Year, Sasha Schmid's Hatters are 10-1 at the Stoll Tennis Center this season. Junior Valentina Galbarini has tallied a 14-3 singles dual record, all at the No. 1 position. Freshman Shannon Gunning (12-5) is on a six match winning streak and has won eight of her last 10. On the doubles side, the pairs of juniors Breanna Atkinson and Katherine Nowicki, and Galbarini and sophomore Unnati Purushotham lead the Hatters with 13 wins each. The Galbarini-Purushotham duo enters the weekend on a six match winning streak, while Atkinson-Nowicki boast 10 consecutive victories.
