The Marquette women's tennis team earned the no. 4 seed at the BIG EAST Tournament to take place April 19-22 at the Varsity Tennis Courts in Tampa, Fla. It was announced by conference officials Monday. Notre Dame earned the no. 1 seed, while USF earned the no. 2 seed followed by Louisville as the no. 3 seed.

"We are very excited about being the no. 4 seed," said head coach Jody Bronson. "We were seeded ninth last year and it was a goal of ours to get a top-four seed. We knew it was going to be a battle for the fourth and final first-round bye, but we have worked hard this season to achieve this goal. It is a great opportunity for us to now prove we are this good. Our work is not done yet. We need to get everybody ready to play on Friday. I am very proud of our team and just excited to get out there and play."

Rounding out the 12-team tournament was West Virginia at no. 5, Syracuse at no. 6, DePaul at no. 7, Seton Hall at no. 8, Connecticut at no. 9, Cincinnati at no. 10, St. John's at no. 11 and Rutgers as the 12th and final seed.

The top four seeds have earned a first round bye and will begin play on April 20. First round action with the remaining eight seeds will begin on Thursday, April 19. The championship match will be played on Sunday, April 22 at Noon ET. The winner of the BIG EAST Tournament earns the conference's automatic bid to the NCAA Championships.

Marquette will take on the winner of no. 5 West Virginia seed and no. 12 Rutgers seed at Noon ET on Friday, April 20.

Notre Dame won its second consecutive BIG EAST Tennis Championship in 2006 as the no. 1 seed with a 4-1 win over then-no. 2 USF.
