MU Earns No. 7 Seed at the BIG EAST Championship

MILWAUKEE - The Marquette University women's tennis team has earned the No. 7 seed at the 2012 BIG EAST Women's Tennis Championship April 19-22, hosted by USF.
The Golden Eagles will meet No. 10 seed St. John's on Thursday, April 19 at 8 a.m. Central Time. The winner will take on No. 2 seed USF on Friday, April 20 at 8 a.m. CT.
The matches will be played at Varsity Courts, P.E. Courts and the Andros Dorm Courts on the campus of USF in Tampa, Fla. The tournament champion will earn the league's automatic berth in the NCAA Championship.
The Golden Eagles finished the dual season 11-10 overall. Marquette has faced eight BIG EAST teams in dual play, tallying wins over Connecticut, West Virginia, Rutgers and Cincinnati.
St. John's finished the regular season 5-12. The Golden Eagles and Redstorm last met on March 28, 2009 with Marquette claiming a 7-0 win. The two teams have never played each other at the BIG EAST Conference Championship.
Marquette is 8-10 overall in BIG EAST Championship action. Last season, the fifth-seeded Golden Eagles upset No. 4 seed Louisville to advance to the semifinals before finishing fourth at the 2011 BIG EAST Women's Tennis Championship.
