Marquette Set to Face Cincinnati in BIG EAST Championship

MILWAUKEE - After a splitting decisions in its final road trip of the season, the Marquette women's tennis team is set to begin preparation for the BIG EAST Women's Tennis Championship (April 18-21) in Tampa, Fla., located on the campus of USF. The Golden Eagles will be the No. 8 seed in the tournament and open play against No. 9 seed Cincinnati on Thursday at 8 a.m. CT.
Losing to Louisville 5-2 then defeating Cincinnati 4-3, the Golden Eagles will have a quick turnaround as they will face the Bearcats for the second match in a row during the first round.
Marquette sophomore Ali Dawson clinched the winning point for the Golden Eagles on Sunday (April 12) , giving them a win on their final regular season match of the season.
Freshman sensation Eric Gebes has found much success over the course of this season. The Denver, Colo., native has won 14 out of her last 18 matches. Gebes has been inserted at the No. 2 singles slot for a majority of the season.
Should Marquette defeat Cincinnati, the Golden Eagles will face the No. 1 seed and reigning BIG EAST Tournament Champion, Notre Dame. That match is slated to begin at 8 a.m., CT on Friday, April 19.
The first team to collect four points advances in the bracket, with doubles action being played prior to singles. The tournament champion will earn the BIG EAST's automatic bid to the NCAA Championship.
