April 19, 2010
MILWAUKEE - The Marquette women's tennis team has earned the No. 5 seed at the BIG EAST Women's Tennis Championships April 22-25. The change comes from officials at the BIG EAST Conference office announced Tuesday morning. Monday's original bracket had MU as the No. 4 seed. Now, the Golden Eagles will play No. 12 seed Connecticut on Thursday, April 22 at noon ET/11 a.m. CT. The University of Notre Dame will serve as the host of this year's Tennis Championship with all matches being played at the Courtney Tennis Center and the Leeper Park Tennis Center.
Head coach Jody Bronson's squad finished the dual season with a 12-13 overall record. The team has face five conference teams in spring play, tallying wins over Villanova, Louisville and Rutgers. Marquette fell to DePaul and Notre Dame on April 17 and 18 at Notre Dame.
The Golden Eagles and the Huskies, who finished the regular season 6-10 overall, did not play each other during the regular season. The two teams last met during the 2009 season, with Marquette claiming a 7-0 victory at Helfaer Tennis Stadium.
Since joining the BIG EAST in 2005, Marquette has won five matches at the BIG EAST Championship. Last season, the Golden Eagles fell to Rutgers, defeated Syracuse and fell to USF to claim a sixth place finish.
