Marquette Tabs No. 4 Seed in BIG EAST Championship

MILWAUKEE- The Marquette University women's tennis team (11-10) has earned the No. 4 seed in the 2015 BIG EAST Tennis Championship presented by New York Life and will square off against No. 5 seed Georgetown (11-4) at Barbara S. Wynne Tennis Center in Indianapolis, Ind. at 11:00 a.m. Central time, on Friday, April 24.
The tournament features all ten teams from the BIG EAST conference, and is being hosted by Butler University. Play begins on Thursday and spans over four days. The tournament champion will be rewarded with the conference's automatic bid to the NCAA tournament.
The Golden Eagles wrapped up their regular season on a high note with a 6-1 senior day victory over Seton Hall at the Helfaer Tennis Stadium on Sunday. The match featured strong play from the No. 1 doubles tandem of Ana Pimienta and Erin Gebes, as well as the No. 2 pair of Ali Dawson and Aleeza Kanner. The duo's earned 8-4 and 8-1 victories, respectively.
Pimienta will head into the tournament at the No. 1 singles spot for the Golden Eagles behind her 11-10 record at the top spot, while Gebes will occupy the No. 2 spot, after posting an 12-8 overall record,including a recent 6-4 surge.
"Our team is ready and they know what they have to do," said head coach Jody Bronson. "We are excited to play Georgetown and are ready to go after a championship."
The winner between Marquette and Georgetown will advance to play the winner between No. 1 seed DePaul and either No. 8 Providence/No. 9 Creighton on Saturday, April 25, at 11:00 a.m., CT.
