Marquette Set To Conclude Regular Season

MILWAUKEE – After a nine-match road trip, the Marquette University women’s tennis team will return home to conclude its regular season slate with two home matches against DePaul and Seton Hall, on Apr. 21 and 23, respectively.

The Golden Eagles (13-6) finished their season-long road trip with a 7-2 record, and won five of its last six. Most recently, Marquette narrowly escaped South Carolina State, 4-3, back on Apr. 15. The doubles duo of Silvia Ambrosio and Paula Tormos Sanchez recorded another win, and are now 10-1 during the dual slate.

Ambrosio also recorded a singles victory from the No. 1 slot, and is now 13-6 this season in singles action. Tormos Sanchez has also racked up an impressive singles campaign, playing to a 14-4 record during dual season.

DePaul (12-7) enters the matchup in top-form, winning eight of its last nine matchups, with the lone setback coming in a narrow 4-3 loss, to BIG EAST foe, Georgetown. Aspasia Avgeri has paced DePaul through dual play, tallying a 15-3 record in singles play. In doubles action, Ana Vladutu and Patricia Lancranjan lead the Blue Demons with a 10-6 mark.

Seton Hall (7-7) will begin the weekend by taking on DePaul on Apr. 22 in Chicago, Ill. The Pirates have lost its previous two BIG EAST matchups this season, to Xavier and St. John’s. Anna Fajnorova leads all Seton Hall players, with an 8-1 record in singles action during the dual season.

The match against Seton Hall will also be played as part of Senior Day for Marquette, as the Golden Eagles honor Diana Tokar, the teams lone senior.

Following the weekend matches, the Golden Eagles will prepare for the BIG EAST Tournament in Cayce, S.C. from Apr. 27-30, as the Golden Eagles will look to secure an automatic bid in the NCAA Tournament.
