MILWAUKEE - The Marquette University women's tennis team signed international standout Olga Fischer to a National Letter of Intent during its late signing period announced Monday by head coach Jody Bronson.

"Olga is going to come in this fall and be an immediate impact on the program," said Bronson. "She brings a lot of tournament experience, has been successful and knows how to win. We look forward to having her on our team."

Fischer, a native of Berlin, Germany, joins the Golden Eagles after helping her high school, Poelchau-Oberrschule, win the 2007 World Championship of High Schools in Warsaw. She was captain of the high school team and ranked No. 1 in Germany. Prior to winning this title, her Poelchau-Oberrschule tennis squad was crowned the high school champions of Berlin and of Germany.

She was consistently amongst the leaders of Germany for her age group, and proved competitive in a number of tournaments. Fischer was ranked as high as No. 1 in Berlin-Brandenburg for her age group, and as a U16 player was ranked No. 8 nationally.

Fischer won the title at the East-German Championship, reached the semi-final round of the North-German Championship, won several national tournaments, and was a finalist in doubles play at European tournaments.
