Women's Tennis Earns No. 2 Seed at BIG EAST Tournament

MILWAUKEE--The Marquette University women's tennis team has earned the No. 2 seed in the 2014 BIG EAST Tournament, the highest seed for the program in its BIG EAST Conference history. The tournament begins Thursday, April 24 at the US National Tennis Center in Flushing, N.Y.
The Golden Eagles will begin competition on Friday, April 25 at 8 a.m. CT and will face the winner of No. 7 Creighton/No. 10 Butler, which will be played in the opening round of the tournament.
MU compiled a 12-10 overall record this spring, including a stretch of four straight victories early in the season. Sophomore Erin Gebes tallied a 13-9 overall record in singles play, mostly at the No. 2 and No. 3 positions; while junior Ali Dawson turned in a 12-9 overall singles record and classmate Vanessa Foltinger went 11-9.
In doubles play the tandem of Gebes and senior Rocio Diaz dominated the season with an impressive 15-5 record, including a stellar 10-3 mark at the No. 2 position. The duo has an 8-2 record in the past 10 matches. Junior Ana Pimienta and sophomore Aina Hernandez Soler own a 6-2 doubles mark at the No. 3 position.
Should MU advance the Golden Eagles will face the winner of No. 3 Xavier/No. 6 Seton Hall on Saturday at 8 a.m. CT.
