MILWAUKEE-- The Marquette University women's tennis team has claimed the No. 3 seed in the 2018 BIG EAST Women's Tennis Championship Presented by Jeep and will open play in the quarterfinals on Friday, April 27 at 8 a.m. CT, the league office announced on Monday.

The tournament will be held at the Cayce Tennis and Fitness Center in Cayce, S.C. for the second straight season.

The Golden Eagles will open against No. 6 Villanova, a BIG EAST squad that they did not play during the regular season. Marquette finished dual action with an 11-9 record.

Bronson Collects 300th Career Win; Golden Eagles Top UIC, 6-1, and Villanova, 7-0
Head women's tennis coach Jody Bronson inked her name in the Marquette history books Friday by earning her 300th career victory in the form of a 6-1 defeat of UIC at Helfaer Tennis Stadium.

Newcomer Natalija Popovic had a successful first season for the Golden Eagles, compiling a 13-6 singles record, playing primarily in the No. 2 position, while fellow freshman Andrea Amortegui also had a strong freshman campaign with a 10-8 singles record.

Amoretegui has teamed with senior Paula Tormos Sanchez for a 9-1 record in doubles action, primarily in the No. 2 slot, while Popovic has had success playing alongside sophomore Fleur Eggink in the top spot.

Following the quarterfinals round, Marquette would face the winner of No. 2 DePaul vs. either Creighton or Providence on Saturday at 8 a.m. CT.

Seeds are determined by the conference's tennis championship and coaches' seeding advisory committees that review each team's regular-season schedule, ITA rankings, results against BIG EAST and common non-conference opponents and wins/losses against ranked foes.
