MILWAUKEE - The Marquette University women's tennis team has earned the No. 5 seed at the 2011 BIG EAST Women's Tennis Championship April 28-May 1, hosted by the University of Notre Dame. The Golden Eagles will meet No. 12 seed Connecticut on Thursday, April 28 at 11 a.m. CT/Noon ET. The winner will take on No. 4 seed Louisville on Friday, April 29.

"We are exactly where I thought we would be seeded and we feel good about earning the No. 5 seed," said head coach Jody Bronson. "We have the opportunity to play Connecticut again and I know we will be prepared for the match. The team has had a great week of preparation and we look to make a great run in the tournament."

For the second straight year, Notre Dame will serve as the host of this year's Tennis Championship with all matches being played at the Courtney Tennis Center and the Leeper Park Tennis Center. The tournament champion will earn the league's automatic bid to the NCAA Championship.

The Golden Eagles finished the dual season 17-9 overall. Marquette has faced 10 BIG EAST teams in dual play, tallying wins over Seton Hall, Rutgers, Cincinnati, Connecticut, West Virginia and Providence.

Marquette earned a 6-1 win over Connecticut on April 8, and the Huskies went on to finish the regular season, 7-11. The two teams played each other in the first round of the 2010 BIG EAST Championship with Marquette advancing to the second round following a 4-0 win.

Marquette has won six matches at the BIG EAST Championship. Last season, Marquette finished tied for fifth place after it defeated Connecticut and fell to Syracuse. The remaining consolation bracket matches were cancelled due to inclement weather.
