The Marquette University women’s tennis team has earned the No. 5 seed in the upcoming 2016 BIG EAST Men’s and Women’s Tennis Tournament presented by Jeep, which opens on Thursday, April 28 in Cayce, South Carolina at the Cayce Tennis & Fitness Center.

The Golden Eagles earn a first-round bye in the tournament and will take on No. 4 seed Georgetown on Friday, April 29 at 11:30 a.m. Central time in the quarterfinals. The winner will advance to face either No. 1 seed DePaul, No. 8 Creighton or No. 9 Providence on Saturday, April 30 at 8 a.m. CT in the semifinals. The Championship match is set for 8 a.m. CT on Sunday, May 1 with the winner earning the league’s automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament.

“We have played so many close matches this year and have been competitive in just about every match, so we feel very strong heading into this weekend’s championship,” head coach Jody Bronson said. “I think we have a great opportunity to play hard, compete well and bring a championship home to Marquette.”

Seeds were determined by a committee that reviews each team's regular-season schedule, ITA rankings, results against BIG EAST and common non-conference opponents and wins/losses against ranked foes.

The Golden Eagles compiled an 11-8 mark in dual match action this season, paced by newcomer Silvia Ambrosio with a 12-7 record on the No. 1 singles court and an 11-4 mark at No. 1 doubles with teammate Erin Gebes. Paula Tormos Sanchez compiled a 13-6 record, including a 12-4 mark at No. 4 singles, while she notched a 9-2 mark on the No. 2 doubles court with partner Diana Tokar.
