Women's Tennis Holds Annual Awards Banquet

MILWAUKEE--The Marquette University women's tennis team celebrated its annual awards banquet last week in downtown Milwaukee as Ana Pimienta, Erin Gebes and Paula Tormos Sanchez all garnered individual accolades.

Pimienta collected Most Valuable Player honors, while Gebes earned the squad's Dedication award and Tormos Sanchez was named Most Improved. Pimienta, who has now been tabbed the Golden Eagles' MVP for consecutive seasons, competed as Marquette's No.1 and compiled an 11-10 record. The senior who hails from La Herradura, Mexico finished her Marquette singles career with a 56 wins.

Gebes went 13-9 during singles action, competing as MU's No. 2. She competed alongside Pimienta during Marquette's doubles circuit and the team's top duo registered a 12-8 mark. The Denver, Colorado native matched her 13 win total from last season when she was the team leader in individual victories.

Tormos Sanchez, this season's singles wins leader, totaled 15 victories to pace the blue and gold in her freshman campaign. Tormos Sanchez notched a 9-4 record as MU's No. 5 and a 6-2 record in the No. 6 spot.

The Golden Eagles (12-11) finished above .500 for the eighth consecutive season and their 6-0 start to the season was their best since 1990-91.

MU fell to No. 35 DePaul in the BIG EAST Tennis Championship semifinals, but has now captured consecutive semifinal births.
