Marquette's Ana Pimienta Named All-BIG EAST
May 8, 2015
Marquette University senior women's tennis player Ana Pimienta was named an All-BIG EAST selection, the conference announced Friday.
Pimienta, a native of La Herradura, Mexico, turned in her best season as a member of Blue & Gold, competing exclusively in both the No. 1 singles and doubles positions. The recognition marks her second-consecutive year as an all-conference performer.
In singles, Pimienta posted an 11-10 record and helped the Golden Eagles begin their season with six consecutive dual-match victories. The senior also played a pivotal role in the BIG EAST Championship, besting her Georgetown opponent to help MU advance to the tournament semifinals.
Throughout the season Pimienta teamed with junior Erin Gebes in the No. 1 doubles slot. The duo finished the season 12-8, tallying the most victories on the squad. The two also earned a victory over Georgetown in the BIG EAST tournament.
In her four years with the Golden Eagles, Pimienta accumulated a doubles record of 57-46.
The accolade marks Pimienta's second of the season after she was named the BIG EAST Women's Tennis Player of the Week in February when Marquette began its season 6-0. Pimienta was the driving force behind this hot start going 4-0 in both singles and doubles during this stretch.
Pimienta concluded her Marquette career with a singles record of 56-48 and will graduate in May with degree in applied mathematical economics.
The Golden Eagles finished the 2014-15 campaign with a record of 12-10, highlighted by an 8-1 record at the Helfaer Tennis Stadium.
