Trio of Women's Tennis Players Earn ITA Academic Award

Marquette women’s tennis players Fleur Eggink, Isabella Franks and Paula Tormos Sanchez received 2017 Scholar Athlete status, the Intercollegiate Tennis Association announced on Thursday.

To qualify for the award, players must be a varsity letter winner, have a grade point average of at least 3.50 on a 4.00 scale and have been enrolled at their present school for at least two semesters. Butler, Creighton, DePaul, Seton Hall and Xavier were the other women’s tennis teams who had student-athletes honored.

Eggink, Franks and Tormos Sanchez were three of 47 honorees from the BIG EAST. They also were among the 192 Marquette athletes who made the 2016-17 BIG EAST All-Academic Team.

The Marquette women’s tennis team opens its fall slate with the Milwaukee Tennis Classic on Wednesday, Sept. 20. Eggink and Franks are heading into their sophomore seasons, while Tormos-Sanchez enters her final season as a Golden Eagle.
