MU Tennis To Open Season At 34th Annual Milwaukee Tennis Classic

The Marquette University men's and women's tennis teams will each open their respective 2009-10 campaigns this weekend when the programs co-host the 34th Annual Milwaukee Tennis Classic at the Western Racquet Club. will be providing live audio play-by-play the entire weekend, bringing action from the event to listeners from around the world.

The three-day event begins Friday morning at 9 a.m. and concludes Sunday afternoon. The men's team will welcome Ball State, Northwestern and Wisconsin while the women's squad will entertain Alabama, Western Michigan and Wisconsin.

Each of the programs will participate in both singles and doubles competition all weekend. A point system will be utilized to crown individual champions in singles and doubles play, based on the weekend's results. A men's and women's recipient will also be selected for the Mulcahy Sportsmanship Award.

"It's a great event hosted at a great venue for collegiate tennis," head MU men's coach Steve Rodecap said. "The format allows us to do a lot of different things with the lineup, which is especially important for the new guys."
