Sept. 15, 2010
The Marquette men's and women's tennis teams will open up their respective 2010-2011 campaigns this weekend (Sept. 17-19) by hosting the 35th Annual Milwaukee Tennis Classic at the Town Club in Milwaukee, Wis.
The Marquette men will welcome Northwestern, Wisconsin and Ball State, while the women play host to Kansas State, South Carolina and Western Michigan. Matches will get underway this Friday, September 18 at 9 a.m. and conclude Sunday afternoon.
"We are excited to be playing in the 35th Milwaukee Tennis Classic at the Town Club," Marquette head men's coach Steve Rodecap said. "The Town Club is rich in tennis tradition and they will do a great job in hosting the event for the first time.
"The guys have been working really hard and are looking forward to competing in this field," Rodecap added. "We will have four players who will be playing in their first college event and they are eager to get started."
Each men's and women's program will participate in both singles and doubles events this weekend. A point system will be used to crown champions in singles and doubles play. The Mulcahy Sportsmanship Award will be given out to athletes on both the men's and women's side.
RadioTennis.com will be providing a live play-by-play account of the action, bringing the 35th Annual Milwaukee Tennis Classic to listeners everywhere.
"I am very excited for the new venue," Marquette head women's coach Jody Bronson said. "I grew up playing there quite a bit as a junior. The facilities are outstanding and I know the club and membership are very excited to be hosting this event."
