Marquette Continues Play At 37th Annual Milwaukee Tennis Classic

FOX POINT, Wis. - The Marquette University men's and women's tennis teams continued play at the 37th Annual Milwaukee Tennis Classic at The Town Club in Fox Point, Wis. on Saturday afternoon.
The eight-team event includes singles and doubles competition and concludes Sunday afternoon with an awards presentation for individual champions. Admission is free and the public is welcome to attend. Action resumes Sunday morning at 9 a.m.
The women opened with doubles action against Western Michigan Saturday morning and won three of four contests. The duo of Ana Pimienta and Erin Gebes defeated their Western Michigan team 8-3. Ali Dawson and Vanessa Foltinger also won their match 8-3. MU's entire freshmen class won doubles matches to continue their great opening from yesterday. Laia Hernandez Soler and Aina Hernandez Soler also won.
In singles, the Golden Eagles faced Xavier and won five of eight matches. Foltinger and A. Hernandez Soler won their matches in straight sets, while L. Hernandez Soler won her match 6-0, 6-3. Aleeza Kanner and Erin Gebes were also one the winning side in the fourth and fifth spots, respectively.
"Our freshmen won all of their doubles and we took three-of-four today and made great strides in doubles action," women's head coach Jody Bronson said. "Our freshmen are showing a lot of talent. We won five-of-eight in singles and we played hard and we fought hard today. We definitely battled better on the court. Tomorrow we need to put it all together and finish the tournament out strong."
In men's action, Logon Collins won his singles match in the second slot, 6-4, 6-3. Cameron Tehrani narrowly missed earning a victory at No. 5 as he dropped his match 7-6, 9-7, 6-3.
