MU Tennis to Open Season At Milwaukee Tennis Classic
Sept. 16, 2008
The Marquette University men’s and women’s tennis teams will each open their respective 2008-09 campaigns this weekend when the programs co-host the 33rd Annual Milwaukee Tennis Classic at the Western Racquet Club.
The three-day event begins Friday morning at 9 a.m. and concludes Sunday afternoon. The men’s team will welcome Ball State, Northwestern and Wisconsin while the women’s squad will entertain Alabama, Texas A&M and Wisconsin.
Each of the programs will participate in both singles and doubles competition all weekend. A point system will be utilized to crown champions in singles and doubles play, based on the weekend’s results. A men’s and women’s recipient will also be selected for the Mulcahy Sportsmanship Award.
“It’s a great opportunity for us to start the fall season off against a very high level of competition,” head men’s coach Steve Rodecap said. “It will be a good test to see where we are at during this stage of the year and what we need to do in order for use to continue to develop not only as a team, but each player individually.”
“We are very excited to open our season with our own Milwaukee Tennis Classic, where we can showcase the talent we have this year,” head women’s coach Jody Bronson said. “Our players are very anxious to compete and are excited about the potential this team has.”
