MU Tennis Wraps Up Day Two At Milwaukee Tennis Classic

The participants of the 36th Annual Milwaukee Tennis Classic took advantage of perfect weather on day two of the three-day event, continuing singles and doubles competition at The Town Club in Fox Point, Wis.

The eight-team field, which includes four men’s and four women’s programs, concludes action Sunday morning. Play will begin at 9 a.m. with women’s doubles competition and conclude early in the afternoon.

The Marquette men’s team opened play with singles action versus Wisconsin. The Golden Eagles claimed three of the matchups, collecting wins from sophomore Dan Mamalat, junior Otavio Perim and freshman Vukasin Teofanovic. The victory for Teofanovic, who defeated UW’s Alex Teppert 7-6, 6-7, 1-0 (10-7), was the first of his career.

Also claiming his first career decision was newcomer Cameron Tehrani, who downed Ball State’s Patrick Elliott 6-1, 6-3 in the afternoon session.

The Golden Eagles wrapped up Saturday’s play with a quartet of doubles contests against Ball State. Mamalat and Jose Carlos Gutierrez Crowley held off their opponent for a hard-fought 9-7 decision at the No. 1 spot, as both squads broke serve on several occasions.

The Marquette women started off the second day of competition with singles matches against South Carolina. The Golden Eagles fought hard but were unable to come up with a win. Rocio Diaz nearly won her second set after dropping the first, 6-1. Diaz rallied in the second set but ultimately fell in a tie-breaker, 7-6, 1-0 (7), to Josefin Andersson.


 

 

MU did claim one of its three doubles matchups with Kansas State. Senior Kristina Radan and freshman Ali Dawson teamed up to down KSU’s Sarah Snodgrass and Petra Chuda by a score of 8-2 at the No. 3 position.
