MU Concludes 41st Milwaukee Tennis Classic

The three-day event featured five schools and eight teams competing on clay courts in both singles and doubles action. The tournament was the season opener for all of the participating programs.
Sunday’s highlights for the women’s team included the doubles title for Marquette’s Diana Tokar and Paula Tormos Sanchez. The duo finished 3-0 on the weekend, clinching the title with a 6-3 decision over Ball State’s Carmen Blanco and Isabelle Dohanics. The MU tandem also collected victories over Wisconsin and Boise State on the weekend.
Marquette’s Mackenzie Stearns and Alvaro Verdu capped their weekend with a 6-3 win over their opponent from Navy on Sunday and in the process earned the runner-up award for the tournament. Senior Nick Dykema claimed a tough 6-2, 1-6, 6-4 over Wisconsin’s John Zordani at the No. 3 spot as the two programs concluded the event with singles play.
