Marquette Set for Gopher Invite

MILWAUKEE – The Marquette University women’s tennis team heads to Minneapolis, Minn. this weekend to compete in the Minnesota Gopher Invite from Sept. 22-25.
The road trip will be the Golden Eagles’ first of the season, after opening the season in Milwaukee at the Milwaukee Tennis Classic, where the squad experienced a high level of success.
The doubles duo of Diana Tokar and Paula Tormos Sanchez claimed the doubles title, finishing 3-0 on the weekend. The tandem took down Ball State, 6-3, in the championship, and also beat Wisconsin and Boise State en route to the tournament title.
The tournament field will feature 13 different schools, which will include: San Jose St., UN-Omaha, Eastern Michigan, UW-Milwaukee, Northern Iowa, South Dakota State, South Dakota, Iowa, North Dakota, Iowa State, Wisconsin, Minnesota and Marquette.
The tournament will consist of six singles flights and doubles events with daily four-team draws. Doubles will begin Thursday night at 4 p.m. CT and continue Friday morning at 9 a.m. CT. Singles competition will begin at 11 a.m. CT on Friday.
After the Gopher Invite, Marquette will take a weekend off before competing at the SMU Invitational from Oct. 7-9.
