Sept. 27, 2012
MILWAUKEE - The Marquette University women's tennis team resumes its fall campaign this weekend (Sept. 28-30) when it heads to Orlando, Fla. for the UCF Knights Invitational.
Marquette will be joined at the event by host-UCF, along with Florida Gulf Coast and Stetson. Matches will be held at the UCF Tennis Complex and admittance is free for all.
Each team will play one doubles match and one singles match per day. MU will begin at 10:00 a.m. ET on Friday facing Stetson in doubles. The Golden Eagles follow with a singles match against UCF. On Saturday, Sept. 29, Marquette will take on Florida Gulf Coast in doubles at 10:00 a.m. ET, followed by a singles match against Stetson. MU concludes the tournament on Sunday, with doubles against UCF at 9:00 a.m. ET before facing Florida Gulf Coast in singles action.
Sophomore Vanessa Foltinger and freshmen Erin Gebes and Laia Hernandez Soler will look to pick-up right where they left off at the Milwaukee Tennis Classic. All three underclassmen posted 3-0 marks for Marquette in the season-opening tournament.
The three-day invitational will be the first action of the fall for UCF and Florida Gulf Coast, while Stetson is coming off an impressive run at the College of Charleston Invitational on Sept. 14-16, where three of the Hatters' players were in the championship match for their respective draws.
Marquette last squared off with UCF two years ago in dual action. MU dropped a tight 4-3 contest to the Knights.
