MILWAUKEE - The Marquette women's tennis team heads to Northwestern this weekend to continue fall play at the Wildcat Invite.
Several teams from across the country will compete in the tournament, including Notre Dame, Michigan, Michigan State, Chicago State, DePaul, UIC and Lewis representing the Midwest. Montana and Utah will also be present, followed by Florida State, Pittsburgh and Kentucky.
Teams will compete in two rounds of doubles and a round of singles play on Friday. On Saturday and Sunday, a round of doubles and a round of singles will take place each day.
Last weekend at the Milwaukee Tennis Classic, Marquette's doubles pair of Fleur Eggink and Natalija Popovic advanced to the semifinals before dropping a match 8-5 to Arkansas. The duo will take on Notre Dame in the opening round of doubles play at this weekend's Wildcat Invite Friday at 9 a.m.
The rest of the squad saw action in Minneapolis last weekend, where Milica Novakovic and Lesley Foe took down Iowa State 6-3 in doubles play before falling 6-2 to Nebraska. Novakovic, Eggink, Popovic and Foe will all participate in the Round of 16 singles this weekend, with the addition of Andrea Amortegui.
Following the trip to Evanston, Ill., this weekend, the Golden Eagles travel west to Tucson for the Arizona Wildcat Tournament taking place Oct. 13-15.
