MU Finishes Play At Knights Invitational

ORLANDO, Fla. - The Marquette University women's tennis squad closed out competition at the Knights Invitational, hosted by UCF on Sunday at the UCF Tennis Complex.
The Golden Eagles won six singles matches over Florida Gulf Coast in the afternoon, including the no. 1 and no. 2 positions. Ana Pimienta defeated Sarah Means (FGCU) 6-4, 6-3 and Erin Gebes was perfect at no. 2 all weekend defeating Morgan Bechtel (FGCU) 6-3, 6-2. Rocio Diz earned a singles victory defeating Elizabeth Means (FGCU) 6-4, 6-4. In the sixth slot, Vanessa Foltinger defeated Zhoe Solaun (FGCU) 6-0, 6-1 and Ali Dawson fought to come away with a victory by defeating Gyanna Mandic (FGCU) 0-6, 6-2, 1-0 (10-7). Laia Hernandez Soler defeated Marina Diez in straight sets, 6-0, 6-0.
"I saw a lot of improvement today," head coach Jody Bronson said. "We fell a little short in closing out some matches, but that was our youth. With more experience we will be able to handle those close matches."
The Golden Eagles will be back in action beginning Oct. 5 at the Spartan Invitational in East Lansing, Mich.
