Golden Eagles Cap Day One at Wolverine Invitational

ANN ARBOR, Mich. - Rachael Hush and Chelsea Utting recorded singles wins for the Marquette University women's tennis team Friday during day one of the Wolverine Invitational hosted by the University of Michigan.
In the Blue Draw, Hush defeated Western Michigan's April Kerr in straight sets, 6-2, 6-2, in her first match of the day, but fell 7-5, 6-2, to Olga Chernova in her second match. Hush will play Western Michigan's Rachel Denny in singles action tomorrow.
Utting took down Kari Wig of Michigan, 6-4, 7-6 (4) and moved on past Purdue's Anna Duskina by default to play Valentina Rusakova Saturday for a spot in the Blue Draw final.
Olga Fischer, Kelly Barry and Gillian Hush each dropped their respective first matches in the Maize Draw. Barry came close to a win over Maggie Remynse, but couldn't hold on after a 7-5 first-set win to fall 7-6 (3), 6-2 in the remaining two sets.
Barry will play Western Michigan's Jill Pastunink Saturday, while Fischer will meet Purdue's Dushkina and Gillian Hush will take on Mara Schmidt.
The Golden Eagles begin their second day of competition in the Wolverine Invitational Saturday at 10 a.m. ET/9 a.m. CT.
