Marquette Set for Regional Play this Weekend
Oct. 11, 2013
MILWAUKEE--The Marquette University women's tennis team will be split for this weekend's regional play. Junior Ana Pimienta and sophomore Erin Gebes will be playing for the Midwest ITA Regional in Ann Arbor, Mich., and the remainder of the squad will be playing at Northern Illinois's regional in Rockford, Ill.
Gebes and Pimienta have qualified to play in the doubles and singles main draw. Doubles action begins on Friday at 2 p.m. against the duo of Tripolskaya/Burich from Wisconsin. The duo's appearance at the regional will end a three-year streak of not attending for the Golden Eagles.
The remainder of the Golden Eagles will take on a different regional at Northern Illinois on Oct. 11. Senior Rocio Diaz, juniors Ali Dawson and Vanessa Foltinger and sophomore Laia Hernandez Soler are set to begin play on Friday.
The squad is coming off a solid performance at the Cal Nike Invitational. The duo of Gebes and Pimienta reached the finals match in blue doubles consolation, falling to a pair from Armstrong Atlantic State, 9-7. Junior Vanessa Foltinger advanced to the white singles consolation semi-final, but fell in a tough match to Dora Andrejski from Armstrong Atlantic State, 6-2, 6-7(6), 1-0(10).
When the Golden Eagles return they will have a few weeks off before heading to Kalamazoo, Mich., on Nov. 8 for the WMU Super Challenge.
