Marquette Reaches Multiple Finals at Second Chance Regional

ROCKFORD, Ill.--The Marquette women's tennis squad competing in the second chance regional in Rockford, Ill. Had a successful day of competition reaching multiple finals in singles and doubles play.

Senior Rocio Diaz and junior Ali Dawson worked their way through two victories in the `Doubles A' draw with an 8-2 mark over UWM and a hard-fought 8-6 decision in the match over a squad from ISU. The duo will face Knoppe/Sharples from Illinois Chicago in the championship match Sunday.

Junior Aleeza Kanner and sophomore Laia Hernandez Soler also had great success in doubles play on Saturday. The tandem defeated NIU, 8-3 before sweeping all sets, 8-0, over Lloyd/Navarro from CSU. Kanner and Hernandez Soler will play in the championship match of the `Doubles B' draw on Sunday.

In singles play, Dawson reached the championship match in `Singles A' as she won handily, 6-2, 6-2, over Dana Shannon from UWM. Hernandez Soler took a 6-4, 6-4 decision over Alyssa Straub from UWM, to advance to Sunday's final match in `Singles C.'

In the ITA Midwest regional held in Ann Arbor, Mich., both junior Ana Pimienta and sophomore Erin Gebes fell in their singles matches, 6-2, 6-2 and 6-2, 6-2, respectively. The tandem also dropped an 8-3 decision in doubles action earlier on Saturday to conclude their play in the regional.

The squad playing in Rockford will begin play on Sunday morning.
