Marquette Heads to USTA/ITA Midwest Regional

Rocio Diaz partnered with Aina Hernandez Soler to win their doubles draw last time out

MILWAUKEE - The Marquette University women's tennis team continues the fall portion of its schedule this weekend (Oct. 18-23) when it heads to the 2012 USTA/ITA Midwest Regional hosted by the University of Illinois at the Atkins Tennis Center in Urbana, Ill. 

Competition will begin with a 48-player qualifying singles draw on Thursday, Oct. 18, with players advancing to the 48-person main draw that kicks off on Saturday, Oct. 20. The 48-team doubles draw will take place on Friday, Oct. 19 and run through Monday, Oct. 22.

Marquette will be one of 24 teams represented at the event, which serves as a qualifier for the prestigious USTA/ITA National Indoor Collegiate Championships that takes place next month in Flushing Meadows, N.Y.

This weekend's action is MU's first since the Spartan Invitational back on Oct. 5-7. Last time out, the duo of Rocio Diaz and Aina Hernandez Soler claimed the top spot of their respective doubles draw, while Laia Hernandez Soler went undefeated and earned the title in her singles bracket.

Admission for each day of the event is free to the public.
