Doubles Wins Highlight Day One at ITA 2nd Chance Tournament

KALAMAZOO, Mich. - Doubles wins by the duo of Olga Fischer and Christina Ruiz highlighted day one of action for the Marquette Women's Tennis Team at the ITA 2nd Chance Tournament Friday hosted by Western Michigan at the West Hills Athletic Club.

Fischer and Ruiz teamed to win both of their doubles matches for the day. The duo defeated Maria Kovaleva and Elisa Simonetti of UIC, 8-5, and took down Bowling Green's Christine Chiricosta and Maddie Eccleston, 8-5.

After dropping their first match of the day to Nicole Chircosta and Mary Hill, 8-3, Gillian Hush and Chelsea Utting rallied to defeat NIU's Friedland and McLaughlin, 8-4.

Fischer also earned MU's lone singles win of the day with her defeat of Nicole Chiricosta in a three-set thriller, 6-2, 4-6, 6-2.

Marquette will return to action Saturday at the ITA 2nd Chance Tournament at 9 a.m. ET/ 8 a.m. CT.
