Women's Tennis Takes Part In "Tuesday's Child"
Oct. 25, 2012
MILWAUKEE - On Tuesday, the Marquette women's tennis team was visited by WISN's Kathy Mykleby to tape a segment for her "Tuesday's Child" series at the Helfaer Tennis Stadium.
The squad met with Myklby and Marilyn Jean, age 12, and handed out tennis instruction and encouragement. The team had the duo receive serves, volley for balls and even played doubles against members of the Golden Eagles.
"It was a very great opportunity for Kathy to come in with Marilyn Jean and expose the Big Brother Big Sister program, which is such a great organization," head coach Jody Bronson said. "I know Maryiln Jean had a fabulous time. She is enjoying it. I think she would stay all day if she could. It was a pleasure to be able to give them an opportunity to experience tennis here at Marquette and put their program out to the community."
Tuesday's Child began in 1988 in partnership with the Big Brother Big Sisters of Milwaukee and features a child currently without a big brother or big sister who is looking for a mentor. The goal of the segment is to pair a mentor up with the Tuesday's Child who was highlighted. Mykleby visits with the child and spends some time doing activities and getting to know the child in order to highlight their likes.
"The team had a great time today," Bronson said. "They are as excited for Marilyn Jean when she makes a shot as they are for each other when they play in competitions."
