MU Heads South for Memphis Collegiate Invite

MILWAUKEE - After an extended break, the Marquette University women's tennis team will travel to Memphis, Tenn., for the Memphis Collegiate Invite to compete in its fourth tournament of the fall season. Play begins Friday, Nov. 1 and will continue through the weekend.

MU will face-off against players from Abilene Christian University, Chattanooga, Lipscomb, University of Memphis, Miami of Ohio and Tulsa.

Senior Rocio Diaz opens up play against Nada Marjanovic from ACU in the singles Orange Draw. Juniors Vanessa Foltinger, Ana Pimienta and Ali Dawson and sophomores Laia Hernandez Soler and Erin Gebes will also compete in singles play. The Golden Eagles will participate in all six of the singles draws.

Pimienta and Gebes will team up to play in the doubles Blue Draw opposite the bracket of teammates Diaz and Dawson. Foltinger and Hernandez Soler will also compete in the doubles Gray Draw.

The Golden Eagles are coming off a great showing at the second chance regional in Rockford, Ill., back in early October, where Dawson took home two finals victories, one in `Singles A' play and the other with teammate Diaz in `Doubles A'. Junior Aleeza Kanner and Hernandez Soler reached the championship match of the `Doubles B' draw in addition to Hernandez Soler advancing to the `Singles C' championship match.

MU competes again next weekend on the road in Kalamazoo, Mich., in the WMU Super Challenge which will be the squad's final fall competition.
