Volleyball Freshman Orientation: Teal Schnurr

Middle hitter got her start in high school

Shymansky on Schnurr:
"We wanted to pick up two middles in this class, considering the expected graduation of four middle and right-side hitters. With Teal Schnurr it came down to us and Oregon and a few other schools and at 6-4 she picks up where Danie (Carlson) left off in terms of size, mobility and agility. Teal moves well off one foot, hits high and hard, and can put up a formidable block at the net. We expect her to make an early impact in our program."

2013: Made her collegiate debut against DePaul (Oct. 19), notching five kills in the three-set sweep... Tabbed seven kills in three-set victory over Creighton (Oct. 25)... Collected a season high nine kills and hit .500 in a 3-2 match victory at Seton Hall (Nov. 15)... Notched four kills and added two assists in 3-1 victory over Butler (Nov. 23)...

High School: Schnurr comes to Marquette after helping her Standley Lake High School squad reach a double-digit win total for the first time since 2007 as a senior in 2012 ... The 6-foot-4 middle hitter did not start playing volleyball competitively until her freshman season and blossomed as a senior ... In 2012, Schnurr led Standley Lake in almost every statistical category, including kills (477), hitting percentage (.324) and blocks (52) ... A two-time team captain and most valuable player (2011 and 2012) ... Named first team all-conference as a senior and second team all-conference as a junior while playing for head coach Ben Thompson.

Personal: Schnurr was born in Boise, Idaho and is the oldest of two children to Rod and Kristin Schnurr ... Has a younger brother, Ty ... Plans to major in business.
