MILWAUKEE - Senior outside hitter Theresa Coughlin, junior outside hitter Jamie Mueller and sophomore middle blocker Tiffany Helmbrecht each nailed double figured kills as the Marquette volleyball team defeated instate rival UW-Green Bay, 3-1 (30-28, 23-30, 30-18, 30-27), tonight in the Al McGuire Center. With the win the Golden Eagles improve to 10-8 on the season, while the Phoenix drop to 10-8 overall.

"We did some good things tonight and I am proud of the players for staying tough and getting the result we were looking for," said head coach Pati Rolf. "We continue to improve in the basics, passing, serving and hitting, which showed tonight in the performances of Tiffany Helmbrecht and Theresa Coughlin. Each game we take a step forward to where we want to be. We have big match coming up against Syracuse, so we are going to rest up and get our strength back for Saturday and come ready to play."

The Golden Eagles came out strong in the first game hitting 41 percent behind Mueller and Coughlin who combined for 13 of Marquette's 21 kills in the first stanza. Green Bay kept it close through out with neither team earning more than a two-point advantage. A kill by sophomore outside hitter Kim Todd tied the score at 28 apiece. Mueller blocked a Green Bay attack and sophomore setter Monica Renfro added a kill to help Marquette earn the first win, 30-28.
