Marquette Holds on for 3-2 Win Over UC Irvine

LOS ANGELES—The Marquette women’s volleyball team improved to 2-0 on the season after pushing to a 3-2 (23-25, 25-18, 25-22, 17-25, 15-11) victory over UC-Irvine on Saturday afternoon in the second day of the USC Baden Invitational.
Senior setter Sara Blasier had a stellar day on the court as she recorded her first double-double of the season, dishing out 38 assists with 11 digs, while also connecting on five kills. Redshirt sophomore Taylor Louis led MU with 14 kills and had five blocks, while classmate Jenna Rosenthal and freshman Madeline Mosher each landed eight kills. Rosenthal also added a team-best seven blocks.
As a team, the Golden Eagles combined for 13 blocks and 75 digs.
After back and forth play in the first four sets, UC-Irvine got on the board first is the final frame but MU quickly turned the tables as they held a 6-3 lead following a block from Louis and Rosenthal, which sent the Anteaters into a timeout.
The Golden Eagles have one final match against Santa Clara tonight at 7 p.m. Central time, which will conclude the USC Baden Invitational.
