HONOLULU -- The Marquette University women's volleyball team tried its hand at another upset on Saturday, but could not complete the task falling 3-1 (16-25, 20-25, 25-20, 23-25) to No. 13 UCLA in the Golden Eagles' second match of the Rainbow Wahine Invitational.

Sophomore Allie Barber once again led the Marquette (1-1) attack with 18 kills and hit a .326 clip, while freshman Hope Werch posted her first career double-double with 11 kills and 10 digs. Redshirt sophomore Jenna Rosenthal recorded eight kills and notched six blocks.

Sophomore setter Lauren Speckman handed out 47 assists with eight digs. Along with Werch, freshman Martha Konovodoff and junior Anna Haak also hit double digit digs with 16 and 11, respectively.

After dropping the first two sets to the Bruins, Marquette rebounded to win the third frame, 25-20. The Golden Eagles got off to a slow start in the fourth and trailed 8-3, but responded with a 12-2 run to flip the momentum and take a 15-10 lead. After UCLA called timeout the Bruins answered with a run of their own and cut MU's lead to 20-18 before jumping back in front, 23-22 after a miscue from the Golden Eagles. Marquette committed a trio of errors in the final plays, which helped UCLA to its 3-1 victory.

UCLA (2-0) was led by Mac May with 17 kills and Reily Buechler with 11, while the Bruins hit .259 combined as a team.

Marquette will conclude the Rainbow Wahine Invitational on Sunday afternoon against No. 22 San Diego before heading home to Milwaukee.
