Marquette Takes a 3-1 Victory over North Dakota

AMES, Iowa-- The Marquette University women's volleyball team won its fourth-straight season lidlifter with a 3-1 (25-20, 22-25, 25-23, 32-30) victory against North Dakota on Friday night in the first match of the Cyclone Invitational hosted by Iowa State.
The Golden Eagles (1-0) were led by redshirt freshman Taylor Louis who tallied a match-high 27 kills in her collegiate debut. Redshirt junior Meghan Niemann recorded a career-best 21 kills and hit .679 with just two errors.
Junior Sara Blasier tallied a double-double with 58 assists and 13 digs in her first match wearing Blue and Gold after transferring from Rice, while juniors Lauren Houg and Ellen Hays posted 20 and 14 digs, respectively.
Marquette entered the fourth set leading 2-1 overall and got off to a strong start with a 15-9 advantage after redshirt freshman Jenna Rosenthal nailed a kill, but North Dakota used an 8-2 run to tie the set at 17 points each. The fourth frame was tied on 13 occasions as the teams traded points back-and-forth. MU first earned match point after a UND error, 24-23, but each team fought to continue the match returning point-for-point on each set or match point before Niemann and Louis slammed consecutive kills and sealed a win for MU.
The Golden Eagles hit .333 overall in the match, while North Dakota (1-1) hit for a .240 clip.
Marquette returns to Hilton Coliseum on Saturday, Aug. 29 and will face Dayton at 11 a.m. CT before concluding the tournament against No. 21 Iowa State at 6:30 p.m.
