Milwaukee - The Marquette volleyball team closed out its participation in the Duke Invitational Saturday evening with a three-game loss to Pittsburgh. The Panthers raised their record to 2-1 with a 30-19, 30-23, 30-24 decision over the Golden Eagles who slipped to 1-2. Earlier in the day, Marquette had topped Duke in a five-game match that lasted nearly three hours.

Freshman Jamie Mueller (Richfield, Wis.) concluded an impressive showing in the tournament in the Pitt match, leading Marquette with 13 attacks while hitting a team-best 34.5 percent (13-2--35). Mueller also paced the club with 12 digs. Senior Ann Lopata (Glen Ellyn, Ill.) and sophomore Theresa Coughlin (Chicago) each finished with 10 kills.

Pittsburgh hit 26.2 percent for the match (49-15--130) compared to Marquette's 11.3 percent effort (43-27--142). Both teams recorded 57 digs and the Panthers held a 6-0 edge in total blocks.

Marquette's next action takes place Sept. 5-6 when it plays at the University of Minnesota Tournament.
