MILWAUKEE - Earning their second victory of the season, The Golden Eagles shut out Oakland, 3-0 (30-23, 30-27, 30-22) in the second match of Saturday's Marquette Kick-Off in the Al McGuire Center.

Freshman outside hitter Rabbecka Gonyo led Marquette with 16 kills and a .429 hitting percentage. Senior outside hitter Kim Todd notched her third consecutive doduble-double, hitting 15 kills and collecting 12 digs, while junior outside hitter Ashlee Fisher slammed 11 kills. Junior libero Terri Angst matched her career high with 19 digs.

"I was very pleased with the consistency and the discipline the team showed," head coach Pati Rolf said. "I was very pleased with the young players, Rabbecka Gonyo had a nice game. We tried to spread balls a little bit more this game and see what other players could do. Julie Richards did a nice job, so did Ashlee Fisher."

Leading Oakland was Adrienne Leone with nine kills, while Lauren Duquette collected 15 digs.

The Golden Eagles (2-2) fell behind early in game one trailing 7-4. They were able to go on a 16-8 run to force an Oakland (1-6) timeout, leading 20-15. Weidener notched a kill to give the Golden Eagles game point and Todd connected on a kill for the MU victory, 30-23.

Game two was a tight match in the beginning, but trailing 16-13, the Golden Grizzlies called a timeout and faltered after the break. Todd earned her tenth kill to give MU a 25-19 lead. The Golden Eagles led 29-23, but it took them four attempts to secure the game two victory as the game ended 30-27 in MU's favor.

The Golden Eagles were sluggish coming out of the break as they fell behind 4-0 with Oakland serving. The Golden Eagles woke up to go on an 8-3 and took an 8-7 lead. Junior Jessica Kieser served for consecutive serves to keep MU ahead 15-12 and a kill by Todd kept MU ahead 17-14. In the final stretch, Marquette went on a 5-2 run as Todd served the kill for the game point and MU took a 30-22 victory.

Marquette will be back on the court at 7 p.m. as they face Texas-Arlington in the final match of the Marquette Kick-Off.
