Volleyball Sweeps Eastern Illinois Friday Morning

MILWAUKEE - The Marquette University women's volleyball team began the Ambassador Hotel Golden Eagle Classic Friday morning at the Al McGuire Center with a 25-12, 25-19, 25-20 sweep of Eastern Illinois. The Golden Eagles (5-1) return to action at 7 p.m. CT against No. 23 Michigan.

Marquette was led by freshman outside hitter Erin Lehman's 11 kills as the Green Bay, Wis., native hit .391 for the match. Sophomore Lindsey Gosh notched nine kills and six digs, while senior Danielle Carlson hit .500 with seven kills and five blocks. 

The Panthers hit just .028 for the match with 28 kills and 25 errors on 107 attacks. Sophomore Kelsey Roggemann led EIU with six kills.

Marquette took the opening frame 25-12 while hitting .412 (16-2-34). Lehman led MU with five first set kills while Kelsey Mattai notched four on just six swings.

Lehman paced the Golden Eagles to a 25-19 second set victory with five kills while Carlson landed three of her four attacks.

The Panthers combined to hit just .000 in the first two sets.

After facing Michigan this evening, the Golden Eagles will face Wake Forest at 7 p.m. Saturday and No. 25 Northern Iowa at 2 p.m. Sunday. Links to live video and stats are available on GoMarquette.com for all of Marquette's remaining matches.
