MILWAUKEE - The Marquette University women's volleyball team cruised to a 25-18, 25-13, 25-22 sweep of Wake Forest Saturday evening at the Al McGuire Center in the Ambassador Hotel Golden Eagle Classic. 

The Golden Eagles (7-1) were led by 12 kills from sophomore Lindsey Gosh as the outside hitter hit .391 in the contest. Seniors Danielle Carlson and Holly Mertens also chipped in offensively, notching nine and eight kills, respectively. Classmate Kelsey Mattai added six kills and seven blocks in Marquette's sixth-straight victory.


The Demon Deacons (3-5), losers of all four matches this weekend, were paced by 10 kills from Andrea Beck. Wake Forest hit just .073 in the contest with a total fo 25 hitting errors on 109 attempts.

Marquette hit .314 (43-10-105) as a team, with Carlson notching a robust .529 (9-0-17) and Mertens .438 (8-1-16). Junior Elizabeth Koberstein orchestrated the MU offense with 34 assists.

Marquette hosts No. 25 Northern Iowa Sunday at 2 p.m. in the tournament finale at the Al McGuire Center. Live statistics and video coverage will be available on GoMarquette.com with Armen Saryan and former MU AVCA All-American Ciara Jones on the call.
