Golden Eagles Fall to Creighton in Home Opener, 3-0

MILWAUKEE - The Marquette University women's volleyball team fell to Creighton, 3-0 (25-21, 25-23, 26-24), in its home opener Friday night at the Al McGuire Center.
The Bluejays were paced by Alicia Runge's 15 kills, while setter Megan Bober led the Creighton offense with 37 assists, seven kills and 13 digs.
A Beyer kill led off the match for the Golden Eagles and a Carol Henney kill gave MU its last lead of the set at 2-1. Marquette would respond with five straight-points in the middle of the set to pull the frame to 18-16, but that was as close as MU would get before falling 25-21.
The Golden Eagles remained close to CU throughout the second set and fought back from a six-point deficit at 16-10 to lead at 21-20 on a Beyer kill. MU would drop five of the following seven points to fall 25-23.
Marquette sat at set-point (24-22) in the final frame but dropped the next four points to lose 26-24. The Bluejays closed out the final stanza with a service ace from libero Nayka Benitez.
Marquette combined for 13 total receiving and service errors, while the Bluejays limited their service and reception mistakes to a total of five.
