MILWAUKEE -- The Marquette University women's volleyball team fell 3-1 to No. 13 Kentucky (25-23, 26-24, 25-23, 25-23) on Sunday afternoon in the closing match of the 2017 Marquette Invitational.

Sophomore Allie Barber paced the Golden Eagles (4-4) with 21 kills at a .488 clip, joined in double-digit kills by freshman Hope Werch (12 kills, 11 digs) and redshirt junior Jenna Rosenthal (10 kills, four blocks).

Sophomore setter Lauren Speckman tallied 55 assists and five digs, while senior Manon Geoffroy recorded 11 digs and freshman Martha Konovodoff notched three service aces.

The Wildcats (7-2) were led by Leah Edmond with 26 kills and Madison Lilley with 65 assists.

After dropping the first set 25-23, Marquette rallied for a set two victory in an exciting 26-24 finish. Set three followed suit for another narrow decision (25-23) to pave the way for the Wildcats to take set four by another two-point differential (25-23). Each set was tight from start to finish with neither team leading by more than five points in any of the four frames.

It will be a quick turnaround for the Golden Eagles as they will travel to take on cross-city foe Milwaukee on Tuesday, Sept. 12 at 6 p.m. Central time before heading west to in-state rival and sixth-ranked Wisconsin on Thursday, Sept. 14.
