Marquette Falls to No. 22 Kansas

LARAMIE, Wyo.-- The Marquette University women's volleyball team concluded the Pistol Pete's Showdown with a 3-0 (23-25, 21-25, 16-25) loss to No. 22 Kansas on Saturday morning at the UniWyo Sports Complex.

Junior Joy Miley and redshirt freshman Taylor Louis led MU (6-3) offensively with nine kills each, while senior Erin Lehman connected on six kills and redshirt junior Meghan Niemann and redshirt freshman Jenna Rosenthal added five kills apiece. Rosenthal hit .357 in the match and totaled two blocks to finish the tournament with 14 total.

The Jayhawks (9-0) had three players with double digit kills led by Kelsie Payne with 15, while Tiana Dockery and Madison Rigdon recorded 13 and 12 kills, respectively.

Redshirt junior Mary Nilles dished out 28 assists, while junior Lauren Houg collected 17 digs.

After falling behind 2-0 in the match, Marquette played the Jayhawks even for the beginning of the third set and trailed just 14-13 after a kill from Erin Lehman, but Kansas used an 11-3 run to close out the frame and sweep the Golden Eagles.

Marquette will make its home debut next weekend hosting the Marquette Invitational Sept. 18-19. The Golden Eagles will host Wichita State on Friday, Sept. 18 at 7:00 p.m. CT at the Al McGuire Center.
