Volleyball Tops Green Bay 3-1

MILWAUKEE - Bolstered by 15 kills each from Nele Barber and Lindsey Gosh, the Marquette University women's volleyball team rebounded from a first set loss to top Green Bay 26-28, 25-14, 25-17, 25-22 on Saturday afternoon at the Al McGuire Center in the Marquette Invitational.
In addition to the efforts of Barber and Gosh, the Golden Eagles (5-3) received 13 kills from sophomore outside hitter Autumn Bailey and eight from Courtney Kintzel. MU also saw setter Mary Nilles (32 assists) and libero Lauren Houg (21 digs) post new career bests on the day.
Junior right-side hitter Taylor Kasal led the Phoenix (2-7) with 11 kills.
The Golden Eagles successfully fought off five set points in the opening frame, but fell 28-26 on Gosh's only attack error of the stanza. Green Bay led 24-21, following a 6-0 run, before MU caught up to tie the set at 24 with consecutive kills from Gosh. The senior right side hitter led MU in the first with eight kills and hit .438.
Marquette reversed its fortunes in the second set and led by as many as 10 points before prevailing 25-14. MU held the Phoenix to a hitting percentage of .000 in the frame with 10 attacks and 10 hitting errors.
The Golden Eagles hit a match-high .366 in the third set and were led by five kills each from Bailey and Kintzel, while MU equaled its match average hitting percentage of .270 in the fourth.
Marquette returns to action at 8 p.m. on Saturday night against UTSA.
