Golden Eagles Sweep Harvard, 3-0

EVANSTON, Ill. - The Marquette University women's volleyball team opened the Wildcat Classic with a 25-15, 25-15, 25-18 straight set victory over Harvard Friday afternoon.
Marquette was led by junior Ashley Beyer's 13 kills, while senior Rabbecka Gonyo added nine kills and hit .818 in the match. As a team, MU combined to hit .456 (41 kills, five errors, 79 total attacks) in the match after hitting .516 in the first set and .538 in the second. The Crimson was paced by Mikaelle Comrie's eight kills.
The Golden Eagles improve to 6-4 on the season, while the Crimson falls to 2-7 overall.
Marquette hit .516 (17 kills, 1 error, 31 attacks) in the first set and was paced by Beyer's seven kills. The Golden Eagles did not record an attack error until freshman Courtney Mrotek put the ball in the net at 24-15. Mrotek responded on the next rally to end the set 25-15 on her first collegiate kill.
The Golden Eagles remained hot in the second set, combining to hit .538 (15-1-26) in the frame as Beyer and Gonyo each notched four kills. Harvard took timeouts at 13-7 and 21-13 but could not right the ship as MU pulled away rather easily to a 25-15 victory.
The Golden Eagles closed out the set and the match with a 25-18 win.
Marquette returns to action Saturday at 10 a.m. against Charlotte and will play Wildcat Classic host Northwestern at 7 p.m.
