Marquette Volleyball Tops Montana State In Wingate INNvitational Finale
MILWAUKEE -- The Marquette volleyball team closed out its appearance in the Wingate INNvitational late Saturday evening with a four-game win over host Montana State. The Golden Eagles topped the Bobcats, 30-24, 19-30, 30-21, 32-30, raising their record to 3-9. MSU fell to 9-3 with the loss. The Golden Eagles used a solid defensive effort in the match, limiting Montana State to a 10.4 attack percentage. Marquette, who hit 13.6 percent in the match, recorded 96 digs, its second-highest effort of the year. Montana State ended the contest with a 19-6 advantage in total blocks. Sophomore Theresa Coughlin (Chicago) led all players with 17 attacks while contributing 11 digs. Junior Erin Freer (Stevensville, Mich.) was second high on the club with 15 kills and 23 digs while senior Ann Lopata (Glen Ellyn, Ill.) peppered the host team with 14 kills. Sophomore Aga Niemcezewska (Vernon Hills, Ill.) notched 13 attacks en route to a team-high 32.3 attack percentage (13-3--31). Freshman Jamie Mueller (Richfield, Wis.) led all players with 27 digs. Senior setter Gemma Greer (Winfield, Ill.) dished out 53 assists and totaled seven digs and earned all-tournament honors. Over the weekend, Greer registered 151 assists, 22 digs and 13 attacks.
Marquette returns to action on Wednesday, Sept. 24, when it plays at UW-Milwaukee starting at 7:00 p.m.
