No. 4 Florida Sweeps Volleyball

MILWAUKEE - No. 4 Florida proved to be too much for the Marquette University women's volleyball team on Friday evening as the Gators swept the Golden Eagles 25-21, 25-21, 25-13 at the Al McGuire Center.
Marquette (5-4) was led by Autumn Bailey's double-double of 10 kills and 13 digs, while redshirt freshman Jackie Kocken notched eight kills on .500 hitting (8-1-14). In addition to Bailey's team-high dig total, senior libero Julie Jeziorwoski also reached double figures with 12 in the contest.
The Gators (10-1) were led by 13 kills from senior middle blocker Chloe Mann, while sophomore outside hitter Ziva Recek added 12. Senior setter Taylor Brauneis, a Louisville transfer, pitched in 37 assists for Florida, which hit a combined .317.
The Gators stormed back to win the opening set 25-21 after MU opened up a seven-point lead, 11-4, to begin play. Florida used an 8-1 run to knot the set at 12 and broke free from a tie at 18 to pull away for good.
Bailey notched a set-high five kills in the frame and hit .417, though MU was out-hit .286 to .190.
Marquette opened up a 12-8 lead on three-straight Florida attack errors in the second set, but after leading 14-9 was unable to hold any momentum before falling 25-21. The Golden Eagles hit .000 in the second with eight kills, five of which came from Bailey, and eight attack errors.
The Gators opened up a large 7-1 advantage out of the intermission before rolling to a 25-13 third set victory.
UF will face the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee on Saturday at 6 p.m. at the Al McGuire Center.
Marquette returns to action at the Al McGuire Center on Sunday at 2 p.m. against Milwaukee in the finale of the Marquette Invitational.
