The Golden Eagles (10-7, 2-2 BIG EAST) were led by 11 kills and seven digs from junior outside hitter Ashley Beyer, while Danielle Carlson and Ciara Jones each recorded 10 kills of their own.

Darlene Ramdin led the Red Storm (13-8, 0-4 BIG EAST) with 12 kills in the contest.

Towards the beginning of the second frame, Marquette went on a 7-1 run to take a 15-8 lead, highlighted by three kills from Carlson. The Golden Eagles forced four consecutive attack errors and four service errors to close the set, 25-15. The 10-point win was the largest in conference play for the Golden Eagles this season.

Marquette claimed the last set, 26-24, with the game point claimed on a St. John's attack error, one of 25 the Golden Eagles forced Friday night. The Red Storm took a 6-10 lead before two kills apiece by Beyer and Carlson helped MU even the score, 13-13. Down 23-22, Marquette refused to surrender the third set, forcing three attack errors and one service error in the last six plays.

The Golden Eagles hit .287 (39 kills, 12 errors, 94 total attacks) as a team, while MU held St. John's to an attack percentage of .061 (31-25-98).

The Golden Eagles return to action Sunday at the Al McGuire Center against Connecticut at 2 p.m. All fans in attendance are encouraged to wear gold as part of MU's "Gold Out."
