CINCINNATI - Sophomore outside hitter Autumn Bailey led four Golden Eagles in double figures with 20 kills as the Marquette University women's volleyball team rallied from a first set loss to defeat Xavier 22-25, 25-18, 25-14, 25-19 at the Cintas Center in Cincinnati.

Bailey, who is averaging 4.91 kills per set against Xavier in three career matches, posted 12 digs in addition to her match-high kill total for her 11th straight double-double. The Golden Eagles (13-5, 4-1 BIG EAST) also received 14 kills from senior Lindsey Gosh, 13 kills from Nele Barber and 11 from Meghan Niemann.

Setters Gabby Benda and Mary Nilles split time and posted 28 and 23 assists, respectively, as MU hit a combined .358 (61-13-134)

Freshman outside hitter Kristen Massa was the only Xavier hitter to reach double digits with 11 kills as the Musketeers hit .187 (46-20-139) for the match.

Marquette was able to rally from an early four-point deficit in the opening set, but fell 25-22 as Xavier took five of the final six points of the frame. The Golden Eagles held the advantage as late as 21-20 after back-to-back blocks, but could not stave off the Musketeers after a Xavier timeout. Bailey recorded a receiving error on the ensuing serve and posted an attack error before landing MU's final point of the frame as Xavier sat at set point.

Bailey led all hitters with five kills in the first, but the Golden Eagles hit just .171 to open the match. MU also had four different servers record errors from the service line in the first.

MU jumped out to a 10-point lead midway through the second set, but had to fend off a late Xavier surge for a 25-18 victory. Bailey gave the Golden Eagles a 19-10 edge on one of her seven kills in the frame before the Musketeers fought back. Barber, Niemann and Gosh all added three kills apiece in the second as MU hit a combined .311 to hold off Xavier.

Despite jumping out to a 5-0 lead to begin the third set, the Golden Eagles needed a change at setter in the stanza to claim a 25-14 victory. Nilles entered as Xavier pulled within a pair, 9-7, and posted 10 assists as MU outscored the Musketeers 16-7 the rest of the way.

Marquette hit .571 in the third frame with 16 kills and no errors on 28 swings. Gosh led the way with six kills in the third, while Bailey added to her match-leading total with five terminations.

The Golden Eagles held on for a 25-19 win in the fourth set after Xavier fought back to knot the frame at 19-19 on a setter kill from Aubree Smith. MU hit .462 in the fourth and pulled away for its largest lead on Barber's final kill to end the match.

The Golden Eagles return to action at 7 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 11 against BIG EAST travel partner DePaul at McGrath-Phillips Arena in Chicago.
